The German brand adidas was founded in 1949 in Bavaria, Germany. adidas is best known for the 3 stripes they incorporate into their clothing, shoes and accessories. This is why the brand is also known as "the brand with the three stripes." From the beginning, this has been a marketing strategy, with great success. However, the three stripes were not invented by adidas itself, but bought over from the Finnish sports brand Karhu in 1952.

The brand was originally founded by Adolf Dassler as "'Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik'" in 1924. His mission was to provide athletes with the best possible equipment. After a while, his brother, Rudolf Dassler, also joined the company, but then a conflict happened between the brothers and Rudolf founded another brand.

So in 1949, Adolf Dassler continued adidas solo. The brand's first biggest success was during the 1954 World Cup. Germany won from the strong Hungary, by using a certain type of (revolutionary) studs in the soccer shoes made by adidas. After this success, adidas began sponsoring numerous athletes and sports clubs. The brand grew tremendously and the three stripes were recognized everywhere.

Starting in the 2000s, adidas also focused on lifestyle. They were the first in their market to also establish a lifestyle segment, including collaborations with Stella McCartney and the creation of labels such as Y-3. The products were inspired by sportswear, but also meant to be worn casually.

Today, as both a sports and lifestyle brand, adidas can't be left out of the sports fields and streets.

Retro or futuristic; adidas has it

Over the years, a number of iconic adidas women's models have entered the market. One of the most popular sneakers among women are the Stan Smith's. This retro sneaker came out in 1965 and the most famous colorway of the shoe is the classic white version with green. Also, the adidas Superstar are a fine women's model. The sneaker came out in the late 1960s and is still a hit.

Slightly more elegant are the adidas Gazelle. This model has seen many different versions and looks good under any outfit. Similar to the Gazelle, are the famous Spezial, Samba Mexicana, which all adopt a similar look. These are also all classic (women's) models.
