The origins of the British sportswear brand Reebok date back to the 1890s, when the company J.W. Foster was founded by Joseph William Foster in Bolton, a town in the United Kingdom. Soon after, his sons joined the company and the company name was changed to J.W. Foster & Sons. The company was among the first to use a leather upper and spikes in their running shoes for increased grip. Two decades later, runner Harold Abrahams won gold in the 100m at the Paris Olympics wearing Foster Running Pumps. After that, the shoes became very popular in the United Kingdom. In 1958, the sons, Joe and Jeff Foster, founded the Reebok company, an extension of their father's brand. The name Reebok was named after a species of antelope. Shortly after changing the name, Reebok went international, selling their shoes in more than 28 countries worldwide. The brand began adding apparel and sports accessories to their collection.
Over the years, Reebok began making iconic collaborations, such as a 10-year contract with the NFL and CrossFit and a collab with Jay Z and the release of their S Carter collection. The brand also collaborated with Keith Haring to pay tribute and came out with the Classic Leather x Keith Haring sneaker. In 2014, rapper Kendrick Lamar signed on as a brand ambassador for Reebok and two years later, model Gigi Hadid and singer Ariana Grande also signed on with Reebok. This is how the brand positions itself in the women sneakers market. This has created the brand awareness that has successfully succeeded until now.
One of Reebok's most famous women sneakers is the Reebok Club C - short for Champion. The iconic sneaker for women came out in 1985 and is largely made of leather. The overall look of the shoe is vintage athleticism. Similar to the Classic Leather Shoes, a clean and minimalist design accompanied by a gum sole. More on the futuristic side are the Reebok DMX Trail and the Reebok Premier Road, both with a prominent sole and layered materials. These models are more geared toward outdoor and extreme weather conditions. More in the mood for a slide-on? Then the Reebok Beatnik will come in handy. These padded, fashionable women's sneakers come in many colors and shapes. As for the materials, Reebok usually uses an off-white vintage-style leather for the retro models. The futuristic models are usually made with a mix of sturdy leather and breathable mesh. Reebok has developed a more sustainable process in recent years and plans to use more ethically sourced materials in the future.
